Independent, in what sense? From a hostile regime running trillions in debt? From two competing criminal cartels permanently holding all elections and governance hostage at every level? From continual lifelong surveillance and seizure of private livelihoods? I’m not at all clear on what cause anyone believes they have for celebrating anything about this hijacked republic, on the Fourth or at any other time. I’m more interested in surviving within it.
