One of the things that makes Cats: The Jellicle Ball different from anything else on Broadway right now is the judging panel.
Every night, celebrity guest judges are chosen for the Ball. We don’t find out who until they walk on stage.
Last night, it was Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Old way meets new way. One man made history. The other is still making it.
You should’ve heard the crowd when they walked out.
That’s the cool thing about this show. Every night brings a different guest judge. Ballroom, TV, film, theater, music. It runs the full spectrum.
Opening night was John Legend, who is also one of the co-producers.
I find it kinda cool not knowing who’s going to show up on that stage every night.
But if you come see this show, you might be pleasantly surprised.

His Broadway credits include Memphis, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, Ain’t Too Proud, and Cats: The Jellicle Ball, with additional credits spanning tick, tick…BOOM!, The Hippest Trip: The Soul Train Musical, and subbing on Rent, Motown, Evita, Avenue Q, and the Hadestown tour.
Clayton has appeared on The View, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, and the Tony Awards. He has performed with artists ranging from Chuck Berry and Ben E. King to Kristin Chenoweth and Norm Lewis.
