Imagine getting a phone call from one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. That’s exactly what happened to Jaylen Petinaud, and now, he’s toured with the legendary HERBIE HANCOCK!
At just 26 years old, Jaylen has already become one of the most in-demand drummers in the industry. His journey started in Brooklyn, NY, where he grew up playing in church, refining his skills and developing a sound that blends jazz, gospel, hip-hop, R&B, and world rhythms. He took that passion to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and later earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from SUNY Purchase, studying with jazz greats like Jon Faddis, Kenny Washington, and Matt Wilson.
Jaylen’s career has skyrocketed, landing him gigs with some of the biggest names in music. He’s played with Kenny Garrett, Keyon Harrold, Terrence Blanchard, and Amber Iman, and was even nominated for Best Jazz Drummer in Modern Drummer’s 2024 Readers Poll. In addition to touring with Herbie Hancock, he is also the drummer for Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway, the hit musical based on Alicia Keys’ life.
With performances at Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Opera, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and major TV appearances, Jaylen is proving why he’s one of the most exciting drummers of his generation. His ability to seamlessly blend genres and push musical boundaries makes every performance unforgettable.
