Thirty-three years as a working musician in New York City. Twenty-six of them on Broadway. I’ve played the pit for Memphis, Ain’t Too Proud, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, and a dozen rooms in between — and I’ve spent almost as many years watching genuinely talented musicians never make it into any of them.
Not because they couldn’t play. Because nobody ever told them how things actually work.
